Pete Wicks Faces His Quietest Christmas Yet After Devastating Loss — And Why He’s Choosing Solitude Over Celebrations
For someone known for his sharp humour and fearless honesty, this Christmas has arrived with a heaviness Pete Wicks never expected.
The 37-year-old reality star has revealed he will be spending the festive season largely alone this year — not because of busy schedules or work commitments, but because his heart simply isn’t in the celebrations anymore.
Just weeks ago, Pete lost one of his beloved dogs, Peggy, after she suddenly fell ill with meningitis. The loss has hit him harder than many realised.
Instead of noisy dinners, gift exchanges and big family gatherings, Pete plans to retreat from the chaos and “hibernate,” taking only his remaining dog, Eric, with him.
“I’m not in the mood for Christmas”
Speaking candidly, Pete admitted he won’t even be seeing his closest friends or family this year.
“It’s not that I don’t care,” he explained. “I just don’t have the energy to pretend everything is fine.”
He later shared on the Staying Relevant podcast that Eric has been following him everywhere since Peggy’s death — a small, silent reminder that grief isn’t something you just switch off when the calendar turns festive.
“I haven’t spoken about it much because it hurts,” Pete told listeners. “But losing Peggy changed the way this Christmas feels.”
A Bond That Goes Beyond Words
Fans of Pete know how deeply he loves his dogs. Peggy and Eric weren’t just pets — they were constants in his life, often appearing in social media clips and behind-the-scenes moments. Losing Peggy, he says, left both him and Eric struggling with the sudden quiet.
So this Christmas won’t be about turkey or tinsel. It will be about healing.
A Touch Of Humour Through The Heartbreak
Despite the sadness, Pete couldn’t resist a touch of humour when asked what he’s buying his best friend, Sam Thompson, this year.
“My present to Sam is another year of my company,” he joked.
Sam instantly played along, calling it “the best gift ever,” a reminder that even in his darkest moments, Pete still finds comfort in friendship — even if he’s spending the holiday apart.
Choosing Peace Over Parties
Pete and Sam have been inseparable since meeting on Celebs Go Dating back in 2019, going on to co-host their hit podcast and even write a book together. But this Christmas, Pete is choosing something different.
No cameras. No crowds. Just him, Eric, and time to breathe.
Because sometimes, the bravest thing you can do during the happiest season of the year… is allow yourself to feel sad.
